Reading alerts
An alert is one potential conflict produced by a single scan of a single watch. Every alert links back to the watch that produced it and to the matching trademark record in the source database (the global trademark database for the MVP).
Alert states
Each alert is in one of three states:
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Unread | The alert has not been opened. The bell icon in the top nav shows the unread count, and unread items are highlighted in the inbox. |
| Read | You opened the alert detail. Read alerts stay in the inbox but no longer count toward the unread badge. |
| Dismissed | You explicitly cleared the alert (not relevant). Dismissed alerts are hidden from the default inbox view but remain accessible under the Dismissed filter. |
Marking an alert read and dismissing it are independent of the underlying conflict — Trademark Sentinel never deletes alerts on your behalf, so you keep a permanent audit trail of every notification you received.
Severity (placeholder)
The alert detail page reserves space for a severity badge and a rationale block, but the scoring engine is not yet shipped. Until it lands, both fields render the placeholder text:
Scoring engine pending — see admin sandbox
This matches the wording defined in the platform plan. Triage decisions in the meantime should be made from the side-by-side viewer (below) and the trademark record details.
Side-by-side viewer
For figurative (logo) marks, the alert detail page renders the conflicting mark next to your watched mark so you can compare them visually. The viewer shows:
- Your watched mark’s image (uploaded with the watch, or fetched from the global trademark database via ST.13 if you supplied one).
- The new mark’s image, fetched directly from the global trademark database.
- Both records’ core fields (applicant, status, application number, designation classes) underneath the images.
Word marks fall back to a text-only side-by-side rendering — same layout, no image panel.
Email digest vs real-time delivery
How alerts reach your inbox depends on your tier. Free accounts receive a single daily digest; paid accounts get real-time per-alert emails (and can opt back into the digest from Account → Notifications).
| Tier | Email delivery |
|---|---|
| Free | Daily digest only |
| Solo | Real-time, with optional daily digest |
| Team | Real-time, with optional daily digest |
| Enterprise | Real-time, with optional daily digest |
In-app delivery (the unread badge and inbox) is identical across tiers.
